Beaded Fringe Materials:

  • Bead Fix or Krazy Glue
  • Disappearing ink pen or tailors chalk
  • Fabric glue - optional

Beaded Fringe Step 1

Determine the length of the fringe desired.

Cut a long piece of thread.

Place a knot in the end of the thread to hold the first bead.

Beaded Fringe Step 2

Thread on a small bead (seed beads work well for this) first as this will be the tip of your fringe and also help to hold the fringe secure, making sure the knot will not slip through the hole.

Beaded Fringe Step 3

Bring your needle back up through the bottom of this same bead making a loop from the top to the bottom of the bead.

Beaded Fringe Step 4

Run the needle back through this loop on the side of the bead and pull tight.

Beaded Fringe Step 5

Place a tiny drop of Bead Fix or Crazy Glue on the bottom of this bead where the knot is located.

Beaded Fringe Step 6

String your other beads to the desired length, counting the beads for the next fringe to be made.

Alternatively you can add or subtract the number of beads to make variegated lengths for each fringe.

Beaded Fringe Step 7

To attach your beaded fringe to your garment, catch a portion of the edge of the garment with the needle and pull all the way up so the beads are right against the edge.

Beaded Fringe Step 8

Beaded Fringe Step 9

To tie off, make a loop and run needle through the loop and pull tight.

Do this a couple times. Cut the thread close to the garment.

You can at this point add a drop of fabric glue to the knotted area.

Beaded Fringe Step 10

To space the fringe evenly, measure out the width desired between fringes and place a small chalk or disappearing ink mark on the edge of the fabric.

Garment should now be hand washed and hung to dry. Do not put in washer or dryer as the beading may get tangled or pulled in the machine.
