Valentines Beaded Key Ring
A Great Valentines Gift
Beaded Heart Key Ring (or Cell Phone Bob)
A key ring is one item that most people carry on their person at all times. And cell phone users love to decorate and personalize their phones.
That's why a beaded heart key ring or cell phone bob is a perfect handmade Valentine's gift for your sweetheart.
Give that special someone a little something to remember you throughout each day!
Beaded key rings are simple craft projects that can be completed in just a few moments, once you've gotten your supplies and tools together.
As a bonus, the steps for creating a beaded key ring are similar to creating a cell phone bob, so this is a project with double benefits.
Beaded Key Ring Materials
You only need a few basic materials to create a beaded heart key ring.
Your favorite craft supply or bead shop will have plenty of beads in a variety of shapes and colors; you should be able to find heart shaped beads in the specialty section.
You will also need the following items:
- Key rings (craft supply stores will also carry smaller rings, which can be used for cell phone charms)
- Length of jewelry wire (6-12 inches)
- Large heart-shaped bead, bauble, or pendant to hang at the bottom
- Smaller beads and spacers in coordinating colors
- Crimping beads
- Eye pin
You will also need a few tools:
- Scissors and/or wire cutters
- Pliers (round-nosed)
How to Assemble the Beaded Key Ring
Before you begin, plan your design.
Arrange the smaller beads on a flat surface, but not a smooth one (your beads might roll away!). Use a towel or strip of fabric for this purpose. Better yet, if you plan on continuing to bead, buy a bead board. They are very inexpensive.
Try arranging the beads in different orders, always keeping the largest bauble at the bottom. Once you've worked out your design, you'll be ready to assemble your key ring.
- 1. Loop the eye pin onto the key ring, so that's dangling from the ring.
- 2. String the beads onto the eye pin, following the design that you've established.
- 3. Place a crimping bead at the bottom, but don't crimp it yet.
- 4. Use the round-nosed pliers to create a loop from which to dangle the large pendant or charm you've selected as the focal point.
- 5. Hang the pendant on the loop that you've created.
- 6. Tuck the end of the eye pin into the crimping bead, and using the pliers, crimp it as tightly as possible.
For multiple charm strands, use the jewelry wire to string a few additional lengths of beadwork, and fasten these with additional crimping beads.
