Okay, on to my question. I started making beaded jewelry about two months ago and the word got out and now some friends of mine would like for me to have a "beading party".
What are your suggestions for a first time party? What should I make sure I do, and not do? ANY information you can give me will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Danielle
First of all, thank you for your compliments on our site. It’s so nice to know our efforts are appreciated.
Have you read Rena Klingenberg’s article on beading parties for kids? As I re-read it in order to answer your question, I realized there is little left for me to add!
The beading party idea is ageless. Almost everything Rena says can be applied to an adult or teen party as well.
To decide on your project, get some feedback from your friends. Keep in mind the varying craft skill/experience levels of those you will invite.
I agree with Rena that bracelets are a good choice for such a party. Using stretchy cord, as she suggests, means you don’t need to provide jewelry pliers and teach about jump rings and crimp beads. However, if your friends want a more advanced course, this would be do-able with adults.
Other than that, think about the conditions you use when you bead. Good lighting is essential.
Remind any friends who wear reading glasses, to bring their strongest pair.
If your friends would not be comfortable sitting on the floor, you’ll need a large table or several card tables so beads can be shared and passed around.
It’s not necessary to provide bead boards for everyone. Let them do their design work on a non-slip surface like a terry wash cloth.
Pale colors are best so the beads can be clearly seen. One tip on beading with stretchy cord: provide clips to secure one end while beading. Vinyl coated or bulldog paper clips (the springy type you pinch to open) work well.

Save any food and drinks for after the beads are all put away. If one of your goals is to make some profit, keep the food and snacks simple or ask the girls if they would like to do a potluck after the beading fun.
Have fun!
