Working with a Boa

Boas Are Easy to Craft With

I am trying to attach a marabou boa to a pair of knit gloves. What's the best way of doing this?

Michelle

Don't be nervous about working with marabou boas. They are hand woven from turkey marabou fluff feathers in such a way that they will not unravel when cut.

They can be sewn or glued. And because of all the fluff, the meeting of the two ends will be invisible. Still I would put the ends on the inside of the wrist just to be tidy. You can use fabric glue or a simple hemming stitch which encircles the marabou ply. Again, the stitches will not show through all the fluff.

Marabou boas are used a lot in costuming. Try to get backstage some time and see the costume people repairing all the marabou costumes - hot glue gun in hand! If marabou boas stand up to the wear and tear of a Broadway show, you can rest assured they will wear just fine on your knit gloves.
