Panadiere Pattern

Panadière - Bread Basket à la Française

bread basket, sewing pattern

Have you seen these cute fabric bread baskets with the corners tied up in little bows? They're called panadières, which

is French for bread basket.

They dress up your dining table nicely, especially since you can make them to coordinate with the rest of your tablescape. You can also use them on your dressing table to hold pretty perfume bottles or as decorative accents or clutter catchers around your house. Since you pick the pattern of the fabric, you're not limited in your decorating options.

One nice thing about these bread baskets is that they lay flat for storage. Also they're very easy to clean.

They're surprisingly easy to sew because the stiff inner layer forms a guide for your sewing needle resulting in very straight seam lines and perfect right angles.

My standard panadière is 10 ½ in. (27cm) long x 6 ½ in. (16.5cm) wide x 2 ½ in. (6.5cm) high when tied into the basket shape.

I also make an 8 ½ in. (21.5cm) square x 2 ½ in. high version since one of my Jewish friends said this is the perfect size for matzos.

In other words, with certain limitations due to your materials, you can adjust the size and shape to suit you.

To obtain my panadière pattern including tips I've devised after making dozens of them, please visit my Order Page.

Make them for yourself, as gifts, or to sell. They are my second biggest seller. If you plan to give or sell them, feel free to use my panadière product label in the shape of a piece of bread. It's really cute, if I do say so myself.

Hi folks!

Just wanted to say thanks for this great pattern....

I made the 8.5" version, from fabric left over from some patchwork placemats and table runners I'd just finished, and it turned out great.

Can't wait to use the whole matching set tomorrow - I have some family coming over for lunch, and they'd better be impressed!! :-)

Thanks again

Sandie
