Glittery Christmas Ornaments

Add Sparkle to Your Tree with These Handmade Christmas Ornaments

Glittery Christmas Ornaments

Covering the Entire Ball with Glitter

Glitter Christmas Ornament Materials

  • Plastic ornaments
  • Ultra-fine colored glitter
  • PVA white glue like Elmer’s Glue-All
  • Sponge brush
  • A glass of water for the sponge brush
  • 2 shallow bowls – one for the glitter, one for the glue
  • A plastic spoon
  • 2 sheets of clean card stock
  • A seam ripper or crochet hook
  • An egg carton or paint palette with wells as a drying rack
  • Clear spray enamel like Krylon

Instructions

Glittery Christmas Ornaments

Use the sponge brush to apply glue to the entire ornament. Hold it by the hanger while doing so.

Spoon glitter over the glue and let the excess collect on the paper underneath. When quite a bit has accumulated on the paper, move the ornament over the second paper; pick up the first one and bend it to funnel the collected glitter over bare areas of the ball.

Glittery Christmas Ornaments

Work back and forth between the two sheets of paper until the entire ball is covered.

Shake and turn the ornament gently to release glitter which is not touching the glue. If your fingers are tired from grasping by now (mine were), use a crochet hook or seam ripper to hold the ball aloft for a couple of minutes before setting it onto the drying rack.

Let dry for an hour.

I used three coats of Krylon Crystal Clear to seal the glitter to the ornament.

Be sure to do this outside or in a well-ventilated area. Wear a plastic glove on the hand that holds the ornament. Hold the ball away from you and spray from a distance of about a foot.

You don’t want the force of the spray to dislodge any glitter.

Glittery Christmas Ornaments

These are beautiful! I can’t wait to see how they look with the Christmas lights reflecting off them.
