Sculpey Clay Dot Flowerpot

Cute Little Decorative Items

sculpey dot pot

This little pot looks like it’s made of pebbles.

It’s a great project for older children and makes a good teacher's gift with a small plant inside.

If you have younger ones who want to get in on the act, let them roll some of the balls.

Dot Pot Materials

Dor Pot Instructions

Start by rolling out about 200 pea size and some slightly smaller balls. Exact number will depend on the size of your pot.

Begin on the center bottom of the pot and work around until the bottom is completely covered. Use a clay roller tool to go across the balls slightly flattening them.

This will close in any small openings between the balls and make a nice smooth, level bottom.

Use your non-dominant hand inside the pot to hold it.

Start placing the balls from the bottom up going around in a spiral as if you were laying a cobblestone walkway.

Continue spiraling all the way to the top edge.

Using the clay roller tool while still holding the pot with one hand inside, flatten the balls slightly just as was done on the bottom.

Make them fairly uniform in thickness all the way around.

Add a few smaller balls around the top edge and roll to flatten as before.

Place the pot on a metal pan in a 275 F degree oven and bake for 15 to 20 minutes. Let cool completely before handling.

On a paper plate, place a quarter size dot each of the gray, tan and rust Delta Ceramcoat Acrylic Paints.

Paint one light coat of the gray first. Then using a paper towel, dab on some tan and then some rust.

Keep dabbing until you get a look that pleases you. Let dry.

Use the foam brush to brush on one or two coats of DecoArt DuraClear Varnish.
