Homecoming Mums & Military Ribbons

Making and Selling Homecoming Mums and Military Ribbons

Do you have any patterns for Homecoming Mums?

Also I would like to make military ribbons to sell.

Please visit, How to Make Homecoming Mums. This article not only gives a bit of history behind this tradition, but also gives you some ideas on how to make your own homecoming mums. (Here is where to find Homecoming Mum Supplies.)

If by military ribbons you mean military braid which is a style of ribbon plaiting used for the long woven ribbons on many homecoming mums, here are illustrated instructions for the military braid pattern.

As far as making real military ribbons to sell, I think you're going to find that it isn't really worthwhile. Genuine military ribbons are available from military supply stores, at gun shows and other places where military memorabilia is sold.

To make authentic ribbons you need grosgrain fabric stained in the appropriate colors. To get the patterns, check out the sites that sell medals and ribbons or use a military almanac. In the search box, type "military medals". The pattern of the ribbon is the same as the pattern of the fabric supporting a medal.

If you are planning on something decorative, you can print on plain silk using your computer and a product such as Bubble Jet Set & Rinse to fix the ink. Or you could use Lazertran Silk Decals to transfer your designs onto fabric.

I saw a website where a gentleman is recreating ribbons using stained glass. Perhaps you can come up with something equally imaginative.

Have fun!
