My adventures with crafting by computer began with computer-designed and printed calling cards. Friends were so impressed with my personal card that they began to ask me to make calling cards for them.

This progressed to other computer crafts, such as greeting cards, cards for small businesses, paper goods for themed events (from invitations to goody bags to bound agendas), place cards, posters and spiral bound calendars for a local theater group and on to many more different and unique computer craft projects, some of which I will share with you later.

There are so many computer crafts, it is hard to know how to tackle this topic. I will discuss the products needed to create these types of computer craft projects. Then we’ll move on to the projects themselves. Crafting by computer is a fun, and believe it or not, easy way to start your home based craft business.

Before we start, I want to apologize to Mac users. Macs have always had a reputation for having excellent graphics capabilities. I have never used one and so have no familiarity with them.

I do know that you can buy programs, such as Virtual PC that allow Windows programs to run on a Mac. I also believe the newer Mac operating systems from OS X on have had this capability.

If you are interested in any of the programs I discuss, please make sure that they will run on your Mac.

Crafting by computer can be a little intimidating for new users, but it really isn't that difficult to learn. There is nothing to break, so just sit down at your computer, open your favorite greeting card or graphics program and begin your career crafting by computer. Your first paper craft can be anything from a greeting card to a Christmas tree ornament.
