Hello... I was wondering if I could decoupage some images using paper and fabric on plain white china coffee mugs.
What would I have to use in order to seal the images so they could be used for everyday use?
I assume they would have to be hand washed ... that’s not a problem... I use a lot of Mod Podge for different craft items that I do... any response would be helpful ...
Thanks a lot and have a great day!
Judith
Did you know that Plaid has just released a new version of Mod Podge? They named it Hardcoat Mod Podge and it might be just the thing for your cups.
I’ve found that regular Mod Podge, even after curing, doesn’t stand up well to water. It tends to turn milky white and even tacky. As it dries, it becomes clear again.
That’s why, when I decoupaged my spice jars, I finished them with three coats of Krylon spray enamel.
With Hardcoat Mod Podge, you may be able to skip that step.
Mod Podge is non-toxic and Krylon spray paints are non-toxic when cured. So both can be used on food items.
I would still recommend hand washing your decoupaged cups with either finish.
