A decoupage finish coat determines both the look and the durability.
Hi,
I decoupaged a coffee table with photos of my kids. I used Mod Podge to glue them to the table. I am now at the sealing part.
I am not sure what to use to seal the table so we can use it and put cups on it.
I am nervous to ruin it!!
Help!
I bought "Parks Super Glaze pour on finish".
Is that the correct route to take?
Becky
You didn’t mention how the photos were printed. They might be original photos on heavier photo paper or copies printed using an inkjet or Lazer printer onto lighter weight paper.
I usually recommend copy weight paper for decoupage because it is thin and the edges will blend easily. This creates a smooth even surface with the appearance that the art has been hand painted.
Since you plan to seal the surface with thick epoxy, the edges of heavier photo paper are not an issue.
However a glossy photo paper made in layers might be. No worries - nothing that can’t be accounted for.
Parks Super Glaze would be a "super" finish for your coffee table. Just be sure to follow package directions and that your photos or photo copies will stand up to the epoxy.
Do a test first on a similarly made photo and pre-seal if there are any problems.
