Decoupage on Canvas
Decoupage Tricks?
I want to decoupage a picture on canvas painted to look like leather.
Are there any tricks?
Thanks!
Sarah
Well not really tricks, you just need to know what you are dealing with. If the canvas was painted with water-based paint such as acrylics, just decoupage using a water-based glue-sealant like ModPodge or Elmer's Glue-All.
If it was painted with oil paints, you need to seal the paint with an oil-based sealer like varnish or shellac and use the same sealer as your decoupage glue-sealant.
Just be careful that your sealant is truly oil-based. Some newer water-based products use the terms varnish and shellac to convey their durability. A good way to make sure is to check the clean-up and thinning directions. If water is mentioned, the product is water-based.
You're welcome!
