Decoupage on MDF
Do You Have to Seal MDF Before Applying Decoupage?
Is it possible to decoupage with 130 gsm paper straight onto MDF without sealing it?
Thank you for your help!
Chantal
I'm not sure whether your question refers to sealing the MDF (medium density fiberboard) or sealing the artwork.
If you are asking whether it is necessary to seal the MDF, the answer is definitely yes. MDF is made of wood fibers and should be treated as wood when decouping. For more detail, read my article on preparing wood for decoupage.
If you are asking whether your artwork must be sealed first, the answer is maybe.
Sealing your artwork is sometimes necessary to prevent ink from bleeding. Read expert decouper Kay Davies' advice.
