Decoupage a Wedding Gift

Decoupage a Unique Wedding Memento

I am interested in decoupaging.

I have bought a piece of wood from the craft section at WalMart and I want to decoupage my son's wedding announcement on it along with their wedding picture and give it as a gift.

Do I seal the wood before I begin and how do I get the print not to run or smear from their announcement?

I also bought some Mod Podge to do this project. I can use all the help I can get.

Thank you!! Hope to hear back from you soon.

Julie

What a nice wedding gift idea!

I think you will find answers to all of your questions in this article on Decoupage Methods. It includes links to other articles on preventing ink bleed and on finishes for decoupage on wood.

I would be less concerned about ink bleed on the professionally printed announcement than on the wedding photo. Can you get two copies of each, so that you can do some testing? (After all, you are the groom's mother!)

If the ink bleeds on either the photo or the announcement, even when you follow Kay Davies' tips in the article above, I have another solution. Read my article on Decoupage Shortcuts. Clear labels are a sure-fire way to prevent ink bleed in decoupage.

P.S. Mod Podge is my decoupage medium of choice too.
