Can I Call Myself a Digital Artist Yet?

Thursday, July 10: It's NOT All About Me!

Sometimes I feel like I talk too much about myself in this journal.

I guess that's what journals are for, but for someone of my generation it doesn't feel quite right.

So today I want to talk about my son, John. Is that better?

My son John - nickname Sal (don't ask me why) - recently completed his third ALC ride of 545 miles between LA and SF.

ALC stands for AIDS LifeCycle. This is an annual event and over 2500 riders participated this year.

Add in all the roadies and support staff and we're probably talking over 5000 people directly involved. This thing is huge!

The donations which riders like John gather pay for AIDS treatment for those who could not otherwise get it.

"Sal", this layout's for you.

The journaling says,

"John, I'm so proud of you - biking over 500 miles from San Francisco to LA to raise money for AIDS treatment. And you've done it, not just once, but three times! What more can I say 'Sal' except ... Ride like the Wind!"

I did the layout using Photoshop and Scrap Girls digital scrapbooking products designed by Amanda Sok, Angie Briggs, Brandy Hackman, Melissa Renfro and Syndee Nuckles.

I also used a customer-designed freebie. It's not just the designers at Scrap Girls who are loaded with talent!

Tuesday, July 14: A Digital Present for Rosemary

Rosemary digital scrapbooking layout

Do you ever feel like you have so much to do that you just can't face it? Well that was me today.

So I decided to take a "mental health day". I loaded up Photoshop and finished this present for my sister-in-law.

I can get totally absorbed in Photoshop. It's my current favorite thing to do. While working on digital scrapbook layouts, I also get to spend loads of time with photos which bring back happy memories.

I started this layout Sunday for a scraplift challenge at Scrap Girls. These challenges are really fun.

A few hours ahead we are given a link to one of the designer's galleries. We follow the link and select a layout to lift.

I lifted Pat Bowman's Best Day Ever. Her layout is much better than mine; but we all have to begin where we are and improve as we go.

I just sent Rosemary an e-mail with her present. I hope it makes her smile - which by the way is not difficult to do. You can probably guess that from the photo above.

The journaling says, "Is Rosemary smiling for the camera or at the Godiva menu items or what? No, it's just Rosemary smiling her ... 1000 Watt Smile."

To create this page, I used papers and embellishments from Syndee Nuckles' French Market collection, tape from Angie Briggs' Scenic Route collection, alphas from Amanda Sok's Glitzy Christmas collection, as well as Amanda's Glittered Gelly Styles to make the "1000 Watt" text really gleam.

The staples and the triple charm pendant were both gifts from Scrap Girls. Scrap Girls gives me presents every day but the best ones they've ever given are the knowledge they freely share and the wonderful online community they have created.
