Oh Behave digital scrapbooking layout

Thursday, September 11:Scrap Girls Quote Challenge 1 - “Oh Behave” Austin Powers

Oooo … I wish there were more hours in the day.

Recently I’ve been participating in some Scrap Girls chats and challenges. They are so much fun and I am learning a lot as I go.

This is the most fun layout I’ve done to date. We were challenged to incorporate a quote from Austin Powers: “Oh behave!”

If you look closely at the background “paper”, you’ll note that it is created from the small photo of the giant cicada.

Using Adobe Photoshop, I selected the portion of the photo I wanted and copied it to a new layer.

Then I used Scrap Girls designer Brandy Murry’s Sketch Actions to turn the photo into a sketch. I transformed the scale to make it fill my page and then layered it over some other papers and played with the blending modes.

Ta-da – a unique background paper.

The journaling says – and I swear this is true! –

“Taste of Cincinnati Festival
May 2004

Urban legend has it that Gabi did – on at least one occasion – eat a live cicada.

Thankfully it was not this one!

Gabi … ‘Oh behave!’”

The other Scrap Girls products I used were: paper and photo borders created by Erica Hite and Melissa Renfro respectively; and embellishments from Thao Cosgrove’s Earthen Vessel (Best Value) Scrap Pack Biggie.

Live to Be a Hindred digital scrapbooking layout

Friday, September 12: Scrap Girls Quote Challenge 2 - “If I live to be a Hundred …” Pooh

I found the very touching photo of the old couple walking together in the PrintShop art gallery a long time ago.

I had planned to use it for a layout with the Robert Browning quote; "Come grow old with me; the best is yet to be".

And then this Scrap Girls challenge came along and I knew it was time. The challenge was to create a layout using this quote from Winnie the Pooh.

“If you live to be a hundred
I want to live to be a hundred
Minus a day so I don’t have to live a day without you.”

The wedding photo is of my DH and me cutting the cake, Dec. 30, 1967, over forty years ago.

Hard to believe! I don’t know if we’ll make it to the 100 mark, but if we do, I hope it is together as Pooh suggests.

I selected an orange paper for the bottom layer and placed the crinkled and aged-looking cream paper atop that. Both are from Scrap Girl designer Angie Briggs’ Scenic Route collection.

Then I moved the PrintShop photo on top of the old paper and lowered its opacity until the couple looks like a shadow walking off into the sunset.

The other ScrapGirls products I used were designed by Melissa Renfro, Erica Hite, Syndee Nuckles, Brandy Murry and Mandy Steward.

Three Dog Night digital scrapbooking layout

Saturday, September 14: Scrap Girls Color Challenge - Red, White and Black

When we got the red, white and black colors for the challenge, I immediately thought of this photo of our three (mostly) white dogs lounging on our red couch on top of our red, white and black throw pillows. Perfect!

The journaling says:

“Three Dog Night

On cold nights, the indigenous Australians would customarily sleep in a hole in the ground while snuggled up to a dingo, the native species of wild dog.
On colder nights, they would sleep with two dogs, and if the night was especially cold, it was a ‘Three Dog Night’.

Teddy, Roxie, and Dusty 2003”

What I like most about this layout (besides the adorable photo – I mean just look at those faces) is the title word art

I came up with using the number 3 from Scrap Girls designer Brandy Murry’s City Park Collection combined with typewriter key alphas from her Shabby Fabulous Collection and the photo wrap tie I found in Syndee Nuckles’ French Market Collection which kind of matches our throw pillows.

No matter what I need for my layouts, I always find something just perfect at Scrap Girls.

The other designers represented in this layout are Angie Briggs, Syndee Nuckles and Theresa Kavouras. Thanks you guys! I love your designs!!

P.S. I chuckled when I went to load this layout up to the challenge gallery. There were 12 layouts and four of them featured black and white dogs!
