Finding a Distributor for Your Product

How to Find a Distributor for a Small Craft Business

My name is Roger. I am trying to start my own business.

I would like to find out how I can go about obtaining a distributor for retail sales. I came across your site with the simple search of "Craft and Hobby Brokers".

Take a look at my website and reply back with any tips, advice or questions you may have. BetterThanPaint.

Thank you for your time and attention.

Roger

I don't know why my site should come up under a search for "crafts & hobby brokers", since it doesn't really deal with the subject. Its true that I give advice for people starting a craft business, but I have never been involved as more than a retail seller.

Obviously you need a professional distributor for your product.

I assume you must be the manufacturer or importer of this unique product. Short of going door to door to various hobby and craft stores, I would think it best to hook up with either a craft wholesaler or manufacturer's rep who could arrange for wide scale product distribution for you.

Go to Crafts Report Magazine. This is the magazine for professional craft retailers. You can place an ad online or in the printed version, either to let retailers know of the product or to seek a wholesaler or rep. Also you might find ads from distributors looking for products to represent.

You could check the yellow pages of one of the larger cities, like New York or Los Angeles to see if you can find craft wholesalers or jobbers listed. Or go to the library and look in the industrial directories to find companies who do this.

Finally ask a local hobby retailer who he buys from and get in touch with them. Be careful about Internet searches on this topic, because you won't find many true wholesalers listed online.

I think you have something different to sell. It looks like hobby stores will be your prime target. If your product works as advertised, you should have no trouble finding a market.

I wish you success. I'm sorry that I don't have more information to give you.
