Window Envelope Card Ideas

Some ideas for making sneak preview envelope cards.

Window Envelope Cards for Mailing

To make a window envelope card for mailing, your cutout window must be positioned to the left of the envelope allowing room on the right for addressee information and postage stamps.

If you will be doing multiple window envelope cards, say for invitations, thank you or Christmas cards, you will want the window to be easy to cut.

That means your frame shape should be simple like a rectangle unless you have a shape cutting system like Fiskars ShapeCutter.

Here are some ideas for items you can use to frame the window cutout:

  • Gift box with big bow, cupcake (as in the photo above), birthday cake for a birthday party
  • Simple house, window or open front door for a housewarming or change of address
  • Button frame for a toddler's birthday ("Cute as a Button")
  • Picture frame for any occasion

The window envelope card above uses Scrap Girls products by the following graphic designers: Melissa Renfro, Erica Hite, and Amanda McGee.

I also used papers from the free Refresh2 Scrap Girls Biggie and a free template from Jessica Sprague.

Window envelope cards can be used in other ways as well. They can give a third dimension to a scrapbook layout.

The one above is about my love of dance. I have tons of photos of my recitals and performances, as well as those of my dance students. But I didn't want to overcrowd the layout with them.

So I chose a select few for the main layout; then taped a window envelope on the bottom containing the others snapshots I wanted to include.

The cutout window in the envelope is a photo lens and the sneak preview is of me in the "dying swan" pose. Ahh the memories ...

My journaling says:

"I've danced since I was 9. I danced through grade school, high school and college.

I danced through the house. My family smiled at my eccentricity. The kitchen sink was my practice barre as I dried dishes. I leapt from the kitchen steps to enhance my grand jetés. I taught ballet and then aerobics. At 62, I may have slowed some but still ...

I love to dance!"
