Clay Pot Garden Bells

Clay Pot Garden Bells Kids Can Make

garden bells

These are cute and easy to make. Let the kids decorate the pots and see what they come up with. Then an adult can assemble the bells. Garden bells make a great gift for your favorite gardener, as well as a good teacher gift.

The wide choices of colors and wood embellishments will inspire all types of garden bell designs - each one unique. More pots can be added as long as they progress to a smaller size as you go down.

Garden Bells Materials

  • One 6-inch and one 4-inch clay pot
  • Folk Art Acrylic Outdoor Paints in Licorice, Engine Red and Lemon Custard
  • 1 Q-tip
  • Scissors
  • Aleene's Clear Gel Tacky Glue
  • Painted wood ladybugs and leaves
  • 4 feet of 5 mm cotton cord
  • 3 wood beads 1-inch in diameter with a hole large enough for stringing the cord
  • Paint brush
  • Black medium point Sharpie Marker

How to Assemble the Garden Bells

Paint the larger pot in Lemon Custard and the inside in Licorice.

Paint the smaller pot in Licorice and the inside in Engine Red.

When the smaller pot is completely dry add Lemon Custard dots to the rim with a Q-tip.

Glue the ladybugs and leaves around the larger pot and let dry overnight.

Write or print with black paint or Sharpie Marker "I Love Ladybugs" around the rim of the larger pot with the pot sitting upside down.

Place one end of the cording through the hole in the large pot. Make a large loop at the end of the cord with a knot for hanging.

Slide one bead on the other end of the cord up to the hole in the large pot. The bead should be large enough not to slide through the hole. Glue the bead in place to keep it from moving around. Tie a knot just below and snug to the bead.

Place the cord through the hole in the bottom of the smaller pot and add a bead to the inside as done for the large pot leaving about half the small pot showing below the larger pot.

Glue the bead in place to secure and tie a knot just below the bead as before.

Leave about 4-inch of the cord free and add the last bead to the very bottom of the cord with a knot tied just below the bead.
