Wine Gift Bags

More “Wine” Gift Bags Ideas

wine gift bags

The photo hardly does them justice, but my customers love these organza wine gift bags. I normally square the bottoms of my
(cotton) wine gift bags, but the organza shows better if the bottoms are fanned out.

These beautiful fabrics are covered with glittery designs of dots, swirls or stars. They are pricey ($5 to $10 a yard), but given that I sew 10 bags per yard and charge $7 each, the profit margin is still acceptable.

I purchased some of the wired ribbon specifically for these bags; but I also used scraps from prior projects and even some which I received on gifts. That also helps with the profit margin and results in more unique designs.

Wine Gift Tags

Finally, I added a new twist based on a customer’s idea. She said, “Why don’t you include a few blank gift tags to create a gift that keeps giving?”

So each bottle comes with four gift tags: a Christmas wreath; a big cork that says “Cheers!”; one with roses in a gold frame for Valentine’s or some other romantic occasion; and a framed collection of wine labels.

Funky Scotch Bottle Bag

The funky bag pictured on the left is not technically a wine gift bottle. It’s for the scotch drinker on your list.

Just sew a bag to fit the bottle from a tartan-type plaid fabric. The one pictured is a rich black velvet with red and (metallic thread) gold plaid pattern.

Again I left the bottom simple to better show off the fabric.

The tam and sporran (the pouch hung from the belt in the front center of the “kilt”) are sewn from black polar fleece. A small gold tassel completes the sporran. If you like, make a gift card that will slip into the tiny pouch.

Find my pattern for wine gift bags here.

You may want to make the bags a bit taller than usual like I did with these. Also, the wired ribbons on the organza bags are not sewn into the side seam but rather are basted flat onto the back of the bag.
