Feathered Hair Clip

Be Original - Do It Yourself

feathered hair clip

Save money on some feathered bling and DIY!

You can buy fabulous feathered hair clips like this for $15 or make your own for just a couple dollars.

If you already have some feathers lying around from other projects, they’re practically free!

Aren’t you glad you love to craft? Here’s how to make your own one-of-a-kind feathered hair clip.

Feathered Hiar Clip Materials

  • Large black snap hair clip - large works well for thick hair; use smaller clip for thinner hair
  • 1 yard of ¼" wide black satin ribbon
  • Dritz Fray Check
  • Decorative button or small piece of costume jewelry
  • Small Elmer’s black and white dotted feathers
  • Small Zucker multi brown feathers
  • Small Zucker black feathers
  • Aleene’s Clear Gel Tacky Glue

Assembling the Hair Clip

Open the clip.

Spread Fray Check along one end of the ribbon.

Place a dab of glue on the under side at the large flat end of the clip and press the end of the ribbon onto the glue. Let dry about an hour.

Wrap the ribbon around the top section of the clip making sure the ribbon is not twisted as you continue to wrap. Continue all the way to the pointed end of the clip slightly overlapping as you go.

Cut the ribbon off.

Spread Fray Check on the end and glue to the underside of the top section of the clip. Let dry for about two hours.

Close the clip before proceeding.

Arrange the feathers you want to use to your liking.

Run a thin line of glue along the back side of the first feather and lay it down on the ribbon near the pointed end of the clip.

Continue to glue each feather down overlapping so the bare shaft of each feather is covered by the next feather’s plumage.

feathered hair clip - step three

When you get to the wide end of the clip lay one last small feather over the end. Glue the button over the last feather’s bare shaft.

Let dry several hours.
