Make a Festive Cupcake Stand from Terracotta Pots

This is such a festive way to display your cupcakes!

After Halloween, unstack and nest the pots for storage.

You can also repurpose your Halloween cupcake stand for another festive occasion.

Simply choose a new color scheme and images.

Lightly sand the painted Halloween clip art designs so the outline will not show through on the next color. Then follow the directions below using the new colors and clip art.

Assembling the Cup Cake Stand

Seal the pots and saucers with Delta Ceramcoat Sealer. Let dry completely.

Paint two or three coats of orange paint on the outside only of the pots.

Paint the top and sides of the saucers.

Let dry completely between coats.

Find three Halloween clip art images on the Internet or in a magazine to decorate the pots.

Cut out the designs leaving an inch all around for taping.

Turn each design face down and use the lead pencil to cover the back of the pattern with soft lead. The lead will be your transfer medium.

Use painter's tape to secure a pattern to each pot where desired.

Remove the patterns and paint the designs black. When completely dry, lightly erase any visible pencil marks.

Seal all painted areas with Country Colors Satin varnish.

Cut a 14", 12" and 10" circle of wax paper and place inside the matching saucers.

Stack as follows from the bottom up:

  • 14" saucer with wax paper
  • 8" pot
  • 12" saucer with wax paper
  • 6" pot
  • 10" saucer with wax paper
  • 4" pot

Optional

The pots and saucers can be glued in place if desired using Seal-All Gas and Oil-Resistant Adhesive.
