Another reader chimed in with a suggestion to check out FlyLady.
I have had good luck following Flylady's advice on how to keep the house clean, the beds made, and the food cooking.
Makes time for crafting less stressful.
Joann
Thanks Joann.
What a fun site. I signed up right away.
[Truth be told - I wish my DH would read the Flylady tips. But I love him anyway!]
If you suffer from CHAOS (Can’t Have Anyone Over Syndrome), please check out Flylady
If you sign up at (it's free), the volume of e-mail is a bit overwhelming the first couple of days, but you don't have to read it all thoroughly. The concepts are repeated over and over.
I realized that I have three "hot spots" in my house that need de-cluttering: my craft room (natch!); the area around my DH's chair where he works all day; and the laundry room. I've already tackled the laundry room and am doing my craft area in 15 minutes snatches.
FlyLady even makes it fun!
Your housework is broken up into 15 minute blocks of time. Anybody can handle 15 minutes of a task they’ve been avoiding, right?
There is a one-hour “house blessing” every Monday (or whenever suits your schedule). It’s amazing how everything gets done in so little time and the house is always company-ready.
There are two prerequisites though.
First, you need to commit to de-cluttering your house. This is done little by little so it is not overwhelming. De-cluttering makes the housework sooo much easier.
Second, you have to let go of any perfectionism that plagues you.
You have just 15 minutes for a task. It may not be perfect until you’ve been with the program for a while and done these “house blessings” several times.
But from day one, your house will look better, you’ll feel better about it and about yourself and you will actually have MORE time for the things you love.
I’m proud of the waay my house looks now and that frees my conscience to craft away!
[I'm afraid even FlyLady can't help the clutter around my DH's chair however. Oh well, nothing's perfect.]
Marla Cilley, the FlyLady, has written several delightful books on how to organize your life and learn to FLY (Finally Love Yourself), starting with Sink Reflections and Body Clutter. I highly recommend them.
