You will find illustrated instructions for Spirit Chains, Military Braids, Love Chains, The Diamondback Weave and Diamondback Garlands.
Here’s a little secret: the various weaves used for homecoming mum ribbons are derived from the art of weaving leather for tack, as well as articles of (Western) clothing like belts and holsters. Shhhh!
This isn’t surprising since the craze for outsize, outlandish, amazing homecoming mums began in Oklahoma and Texas. To learn some different weaves to embellish homecoming mums, I recommend B. Grant’s classic book, Leather Braiding. It may appear a bit retro to you but, as I said, it’s a classic.
The illustrations are clear and easy to follow.
