Assembling Homecoming Mums without a Glue Gun
No More Burnt Fingers!
Plastic Canvas Circles for Homecoming Mums
Needlepoint plastic canvas and fishing line for homecoming mum backing mean no more burnt fingers.
I have been making homecoming mums for my daughters and garters for my son and was really interested in the tip from Kim regarding the plastic canvas circles and fishing wire.
I don't use the traditional points for the nest, but alternating ruffles of ribbon or honeycomb ribbon.
Will this work with the canvas circle and fishing wire, and how is it done.
I am tired of burnt fingers from the glue gun. Could I get a picture of the plastic canvas circles? Are they the things used for cross stitch yarn?
Thanks for your help.

Yes, absolutely! Kim's tips will work with your ruffled ribbon designs.
You're correct that Kim was talking about the plastic canvas circles designed for needlepoint and cross stitch.
Transparent monofilament fishing line can be found in the sporting goods section. Fishing line comes in handy for a gazillion uses. I always keep some on hand.
As for how to attach, thread the fishing line through a tapestry or needlepoint needle.
You can just start sewing your ribbon ruffles freehand or you can pre-gather them.
To pre-gather, sew a long running stitch through a length of ribbon you have cut to fit the backing circle. Tie the two ends together loosely and pull until the ruffled circled is the size you need.
Tie the knot and sew the ruffled circle onto the plastic backing.
Yay! No more burnt fingers.
