Ribbon Embellished Wall Letters

Dress Up Your Little Girl's Room

Ribbon Embellished Letters

How to embellish wooden letters with ribbon for your favorite girl's room.

This example of beribboned wall art letters shows initials; but a full name or word really looks cute as well.

Imagine these on the wall of your daughter or granddaughter's bedroom.

Embellished Letters Materials

  • Wood letters of your choice font and size - example letters are 5"x 3 ½"
  • White Foster acrylic paint
  • Paint brush
  • DecoArt DuraClear Poly Varnish in satin finish
  • 3/4 yard of ribbon in colors and designs of your choice - example has 8 different ribbons which range from ¼" to 5/8" in width - more ribbon is needed if using larger letters
  • 16"x 1" wide ribbon for hangers
  • Glue gun

Assembling the Letters

Paint two coats of white paint on the letters.

Seal with satin varnish. Let dry completely.

Ribbon Closeup

Take each length of ribbon and mark 3 ¼" lengths.

Cut one end at an angle and tie into a single knot.

Then cut at the next mark. [ It is easier and faster to tie the end of the long length of ribbon than to tie many small pieces. ]

Ribbon Closeup Two

Continue to do this until all the ribbons are knotted into little bows.

Tied Bows

The example used 41 bows on the S and 34 bows on the C. Remember you will need more ribbon if you are using larger letters.

Wooden Letters

Run about an inch of hot glue on the front of each letter along the middle of the letter.

Start placing the little bows along the hot glue across the letter, spacing them close together. If need be, trim the ends of the bows so they just extend over the outer edge about ¼".

It is easier to trim a few at a time as you go. Continue doing just about five at a time.

Make sure to angle them as you come to a curve in the letter.

Take the 16" piece of ribbon and cut into two 8" lengths.

Overlap the ends together and fold over a ½" hem.

Run a bead of hot glue along the top back of a letter and press the hemmed area into the glue using a butter knife or cheese spreader to secure it.

Repeat for each letter.
