Again and at the risk of repeating myself, there is an awful lot of competition out there. You have to take steps to make your site stand out from all the rest.
Marketing My Website
How do I market my website? Here are just a few of the ways.1. I pay for "clicks" at the major search engines. All this requires is that you submit an ad and agree to pay every time someone clicks your ad to go to your website.
Pay-per-click advertising is a cost effective way to obtain exposure. Depending on your budget, bid on keywords relevant to your site.
This can cost as little as 10 cents a click.
The two big guns in internet pay-for-click are Google Adwords and Yahoo Sponsored Search. Together, I would guess you would get exposure to over 95% of all searchers on the web.
Web sales is a numbers game. The more traffic you attract the better your chances of making a sale. So, especially if you are just starting out, consider pay-per-click as a method of gaining traffic.
Drive targeted traffic to your Web site with Yahoo! Sponsored Search, which connects businesses and customers online. Sign up and get a $25 credit.
2. I rewrite my pages with specific reference to keywords. First I compose a page with my readers in mind. Then, with the search engines in mind, I tweak it by sprinkling in keywords.
There are many books on the internet about finding profitable keywords and maximizing your pages for them. Take advantage of the free stuff first. There are some good “gurus” out there, but it is hard to separate the good from the bad.
One of the best was the late Corey Rudl. His book Insider Secrets to Marketing Your Business on the Internet is a classic that has helped thousands of webmasters get traffic to their sites.
Containing over a thousand pages of up-to-the-minute research, test results, examples, case studies, and the newest strategies for marketing your business on the Internet, you get 10 easy-to-follow steps, in 61 comprehensive lessons, including:
- Step-by-step advice you can use to start your very own Internet business in as little as 48 hours;
- How to build a top-selling web site for less than $100;
- Where to find products (in 20 minutes or less) that you can start selling immediately;
- Hundreds of free or cheap online tools, resources, and software to automate your site (and save at least 35 hours a week);
- How to get top rankings in the search engines and get tons of free traffic from the "Big Guys" like Google;
- Secrets to writing sales copy that increases sales by 400% (or more) -- immediately;
- And how to get thousands of new visitors to your web site... free.
And this is just the tip of the iceberg! Corey Rudl made millions on the Internet and this book passes his knowledge on to you.
3. I list my site in directories, such as Yahoo’s. Some are free, some are very expensive. But it can be well worth it. Here is a list of the best directories and their cost.
5. I cross-promote. If you write an article that is accepted for The Artful Crafter, it’s free content for me and free advertising for you!
Be sure to include your link if you have your own website. Just think about how many other sites will do the same.
There are many article directories, the best of which is Ezine Articles that allow you to submit your works for wide dissemination.
There are even article submission software programs and sites that will distribute articles for you.
6. I accept credit cards. Nothing drives away an online shopper faster than the inability to complete the sale then and there. PayPal offers a low cost Merchant Account that makes this possible for every seller.
7.I take part in forums concerned with crafting. Most allow you to leave behind a “sig file” - your name and website address.
Marketing Your Website
Make Your Site Sell 2002, while getting a bit long in the tooth, is still considered the bible of website marketing. There is probably a whole library's worth of books available on the topic of marketing your website. Just about all of that wisdom is condensed here. Best of all, it is now a free download from the owners of Site Build It.There's simply nothing as comprehensive as this four volume piece. And it’s not just relevant to marketing your website. No matter what you are trying to promote, this book will help. Further you get all this at a very reasonable cost.
Take note. If you already have a site that is under performing, this book will give you everything you need to get back on track.
Also consider Corey Rudl’s book. While Mr. Rudl is deceased, his competent staff has kept this book up to date with the latest internet marketing trends.
If you use the program that I used to build The Artful Crafter, Site Build It, just about everything you need for marketing your website properly is automated and included in the price of the program.
This program is constantly being updated and new features are constantly being added. Even though I have been using this program for over two years, I haven't been able to keep up with all about the new features that have been added.
As I mentioned before, it is estimated that 98% of commercial websites make little or no money. The Site Build It program is designed to maximize your chance of success if you follow the steps that are clearly laid out.
If you need answers to any questions about the program, click here to get them from actual SBI owners.
