It’s so easy and dries really fast. A can goes a long way and you have an almost unlimited choice of colors and finishes.
There’s even a glow-in the-dark-line (which wouldn’t look very country but would be great to help someone find a lamp in the dark!).
As for how to make mason jar lamps with a candle on top, I’ve never seen one but have seen regular bulb-type lamps with shades mounted on mason jars. If you want to mount a candle on a mason jar, here’s how I would do it.
- 1. Drill a hole into the zinc lid to run the wire down into the jar.
- 2. Drill another hole at the bottom of the mason jar to run the cord out so you can plug it into the wall like any other lamp. (Here are instructions for drilling glass.)
- 3. Run the unattached cord into the jar and out through the mason jar lamp lid.
- 4. Do the electrical connection. Read my wiring article.
- 5. Affix the candle to the lid.
- 6. Decorate the inside of the jar. Your design should hide the electrical cord as much as possible.
- 7. Screw on the lid and decorate the lid (optional).
The candle fixtures also look cute on top of big wooden bobbins, Shaker-style wood boxes or vintage-look tin canisters.
