Menu with Cord
An Elegant Menu for a Dinner Party

Make an elegant menu all tied up in string.
A lovely menu on each guest's plate dresses up the table, lets guests see what treats are in store for them and serves as a memento of a special occasion. I did these for a meal which my culinary club auctioned for charity.
So I not only made enough for the dinner guest, but also extras for all the worker bee chefs who cooked and served this lavish affair.
The menu above is made using PrintShop. The cardstock is 225g ivory; and the cord is three-ply size 3 crochet thread.
Menu Card Directions
This article illustrates how to lay out an invitation-size card in PrintShop.
"Menu" is created using a headline box rather than simple text. A headline allows you to add great special effects (like drop shadows and outlines) and to size the font both vertically and horizontally. The font used in Bradley Hand ITC.
The rest of the text on the front is Greeting Monotone with a drop shadow added. Inside I used a cursive font for the introduction and Amery for the menu itself. I like to mix and coordinate fonts. It adds a lot of visual interest.
Leave space in the cover design so that the cord does not cover anything. Print your cards. Score and fold in half.
Make two small parallel vertical slits just to the right of the (inside) center fold to run the cord through. Again be careful not to cover any of the design. Use a small crochet hook to pull (or a dull darning needle to push) the cord through the two slits.
Tie a knot about one inch from each end and unravel the ends to create tassels. Fold and tie up the menus. If you have time, matching place cards are a nice complement.
