Mixed Media Card
Digital and Traditional Card Making Techniques with a Touch of Mixed Media Art

Supplies for the Mixed Media Hybrid Card
- Gel transfer image on fabric - cut slightly smaller than the 4"x 6" mat [Directions for Transferring a Digital Image to Fabric]
- 7 x 10-inch piece of two-sided card stock or scrapbook paper - scored and folded to form a 5 x 7-inch card (The outside should be a dark color to frame the mat and transfer image, while the inside should be light so that text can be read against it.)
- 4" x 6" piece of white corrugated cardboard for frame mat
- Craft knife
- Ruler
- Copper and black metallic pigment ink pads
- Fine point copper marker
- 4 brass plated fasteners
- Wire cutter (not your good jewelry one)
- Glue runner
- Transparent double-sided tape
- 1 sheet heavy vellum paper

Use the craft knife to cut an X in the center of the cardboard to create a 3 x 5-inch opening for the image.

Use the ruler to tear away the center.

Ink the corrugated cardboard mat using the copper and gold ink pads.
Use the ruler to draw a copper rectangle on the mat for visual interest and to place the corner brads.
Run a line of glue around the back of the mat. Turn the mat right side up; position it atop the image transfer; and press into place.
Insert a fastener into each corner of the copper rectangle. Splay the shanks flat against the back of the mat. If one shank extends beyond the edge of the mat, trim it with the wire cutter.
Run a line of glue around the back of the matted image and press into place on the card front.

Print your message (by hand or computer) onto the vellum. Cut the printed vellum slightly smaller than the card.
Place a strip of double-sided tape sticky side down on the back of the vellum. Rub it down. Remove the paper backing (if any). Position the printed vellum sheet inside the card and press into place.

The poem inside this card for my hubby is an excerpt from "This Man I Love" by Cherie Burbach found in her latest book, New and Selected Poems.
