Autumn Beaded Necklace and Earrings Pattern

How to Make a Fall Fantasy Beaded Necklace and Earring Set

Fall Fantasy Beaded Necklace and Earrings

The double strand necklace above is made up of a 19-inch strand and an 18-inch strand. A bead board makes assembly easier, but
isn’t necessary.

The rich brown, red-brown and gold beads set off by pewter findings and leaves are enhanced by their textural variety.

The pendant bead is a flattened glass blob, rough and dull. The accent beads surrounding it are pairs of varied shapes.

There is a pair of round beads that resemble amber; then two flat beads mimicking the pendant, etc. Above the pendant is another special bead – a foiled barrel with spiral grooves around it.

The colors, irregular nature of the beads and pewter leaves suggest a beautiful autumn landscape.

Materials for Necklace & Earrings

Necklace

  • 1 large brown pendant bead
  • 3mm beads: 100 gold, 88 brown
  • Pewter bar and toggle clasp
  • 2-10mm brown beads and 2 decorative filigree bead caps to fit them
  • 10-5mm pewter tubular Bali spacer beads
  • 6-5mm pewter round filigree spacer beads
  • 6 pewter leaf charms
  • 10 simpler pewter spacer beads like the double ring spacers separating the gold beads above
  • 4 pair brown glass beads to frame the central pendant (6mm to 12mm)
  • 1 fancy center bead to hang above the pendant
  • 4 crimp beads
  • 4 jump rings
  • Bead wire

Earrings

  • 2-10mm brown beads

  • 2 brown 3mm beads
  • 2-5mm pewter round filigree spacer beads
  • 2 ear wires

Earring Assembly Directions

Open the loop of an eye pin; attach leaf charm; and close loop.

Thread beads onto eye pin as follows: 3mm gold, 3mm brown, round filigree spacer, 10mm brown, 3mm gold, ear wire. Trim any excess from the eye pin and make a tight loop through the loop of the ear wire using a round nose pliers.

Necklace Assembly Directions

Cut two lengths of bead wire: one 22 inches and one 23 inches.

Lay out your beads.

Refer to the detail photo above to help you lay out the larger beads.

Starting in the center and moving up, the pattern of the long strand is: center pendant, Bali bead, 1st paired brown bead, round filigree spacer, 2nd paired bead, 3mm brown, pewter leaf, 3mm brown, 3rd paired, 3mm brown, leaf, 3mm brown, Bali, 5-3mm brown, round filigree spacer, 5-3mm gold, simple spacer, 5-3mm gold, simple spacer, 5-3mm gold, 2-3mm brown, 5-3mm gold, 2-3mm brown, 5-3m gold, 2-3mm brown, 5-3m gold, 2-3mm brown, 1-10mm brown, bead cap. Repeat this pattern for the other side.

Lay out the beads for the shorter strand, again starting from the center and moving up. The pattern is: center bead which will hang above the pendant, 3-3mm brown, Bali, 4th paired, Bali, 5-3mm brown, leaf, 5-3mm brown, round filigree, 3-3mm brown, simple spacer, 5-3mm brown, simple spacer, 5-3mm gold, simple spacer, 5-3mm gold, simple spacer, 2-3mm brown, 5-3mm gold, 2-3mm brown, 5-3mm gold, 2-3mm brown. Repeat for other side of short strand.

Final Necklace Assembly

Run both strands of bead wire through two crimp beads, through a tightly-closed jump ring and back through the crimp bead.

Leaving about a 1-inch tail, pull the wire tight around the jump ring and crimp the crimp beads with a crimp pliers or flat nose pliers.

Grasp the jump ring with one hand and the wire with the other.

Pull to test the crimp. (Better to learn that the crimp won’t hold now rather than later!)

Begin stringing your beads, starting by running both strands through the filigree bead cap and 10-mm brown bead. Take one strand and begin stringing, hiding the loose tail of wire as you go.

End with the 2nd bead cap.

Clamp the end of the wire to hold the beads in place while you string the 2nd strand.

Complete the strand by running the wire through the 10mm brown and filigree cap of the 1st strand.

Take both ends of wire and run through two crimp beads, through a tightly-closed jump ring and back through the crimp bead.

Run the loose tail through several of the beads and out to the open where you can grasp and tighten it.

Crimp the crimps beads and test as before.

Trim the loose tail of wire.

Open a new jump ring, run it through the hoop of your toggle bar and one of the jump rings of your strand.

If your pendant has a front and back (unlike the one I used) take that into account. For a right-handed wearer, the toggle bar should be on the right side.

Close the jump ring. Attach the toggle clasp to the other end of the necklace in the same manner.
