Ribbon Christmas Ornament

Ribbon Christmas Ornament

Ornament Supplies

  • 16” of 2 ¼” wide Christmas ribbon
  • 16” of 1 ¼” wide coordinating ribbon
  • Aleene’s Quick Dry Tacky Glue
  • Dritz Fray Check
  • Crazy Glue or Beading Glue
  • 10-10mm glass beads
  • Beading needle
  • Button thread
  • Ball point pen

Instructions

1. Lightly glue the edges of the 1 ¼” ribbon on top of the 2 ¼” ribbon evenly spaced down the middle with the Tacky Glue.

Use Fray Check at both ends of the ribbons.

2. Using the ball point pen, mark a tiny dot every 1 ½” down the middle of the top ribbon.

3. Thread the needle and tie a knot at one end.

Thread on one bead.

Place a small dot of Crazy Glue or Beading Glue where the knot meets the bottom of the bead. This will secure the bead at the end of the thread.

4. With the needle, go up from the bottom of the ribbon at the first dot. You are now on top of the ribbon.

Thread on another bead.

Place the needle into the next dot on top going down through to the back of the ribbon. Pull together.

Add another bead and go back up through the next dot.

Continue doing this until all 10 beads have been used and the ribbon is all strung. See example above.

Place a small dot of Crazy Glue or Beading Glue at the top of the last bead.

This will keep the last bead tight.

You can make a loop out of the remaining thread or cut it off and attach an ornament hook just underneath the top bead as I have done in the example.

These make up pretty quickly so several can be made in an evening.

To make this craft child safe, when the ribbons are glued together and the dots have been made, use a small hole punch at each dot.

Take a piece of 20 gauge wire approximately 5 ¼” in length. Form a small loop at one end.

String on the first bead and then thread the wire through each hole adding the beads after each fold.

Place a small dot of glue on the top of the last bead.

Form a hook out of the remaining wire.

The kids will love this one.
