Crafty Foam Fun: Wine Butler Pattern

Pattern for a Fun and Easy Craft Foam Project

Craft Foam Wine Butler

There are so many fun things you can make with craft foam. This craft foam wine butler dresses up the traditional hostess gift of a bottle of wine.

To print the pattern, click on it and select Copy. Open a Word or graphic program document and Paste. Size the pattern to 8 x 3 ¼ inches for the vest and 2 ½ x 1 7/8 inches for the shirt. Print. Then all you need are:

Wine Butler Pattern
  • One 8.5 x 11-inch sheet of black craft foam;
  • One 8.5 x 11-inch sheet of white craft foam;
  • Scraps of 3/8-inch wide red ribbon;
  • Two 9-inch lengths of black cord;
  • Two brass paper fasteners (for the buttons); and
  • Tools - scissors, hot glue gun and round paper punch.
Wine Butler Materials

From the black craft foam, use the vest pattern to cut two vest front pieces and a small rectangle for the breast pocket. Overlap the two front pieces and hot glue together. Overlap the two neck ends so that the butler's vest will slip over a wine bottle. Secure the ends with hot glue.

Cut a small piece of red ribbon. Form it into a cone for the hanky point and hot glue it flat. Hot glue the red hanky to the back of the pocket piece and then glue the assembled pocket to the vest front. Poke the brass fasteners through the vest where you want the buttons; spread and flatten the prongs on the reverse side.

Cut another small piece of red ribbon. Form it into a loop for the bow tie and hot glue it flat. (This requires two dots of glue: one inside the loop and one securing the two ends.) Cut another small piece and double it lengthwise. This piece will gather the bow into shape and form the bow's knot.

The gathering ribbon is so small that I find it easier to simply glue it around the bow in a flat loop without attempting to gather it. Then put a glob of glue on the back, pinch and hold the two sides to scrunch the bow tie.

From white, use the shirt pattern to cut the shirt top and collar. Glue it into place behind the vest. Glue the bow in place. Punch a hole at the back triangle point at each side of the vest as shown in the pattern. Thread a piece of cord through each hole and tie. Secure the ends with hot glue.

Tie one on and go to your party! [ Note that I did not say, "Go to your party and tie one on." ]
