Pipe Cleaner Photo Flower

A Simple to Make Mother's Day Gift

Pipe Cleaner Photo Flower

Spring Photo Flowers for Mother’s Day

Let the kids make these pipe cleaner photo flowers for mom or grandma.

They're super easy to make and such a sweet Mother’s Day gift. Some moms will put them on view. Others will use them as bookmarks. All will hold them close to their hearts.

Let each child make his or her own.

Of course, you’ll need to do the ones for children too young to craft - like the example.

Spring Photo Flower Materials

  • 2 12-inch pipe cleaners in your choice of color for the flower petals

  • 2 12-inch green pipe cleaners

  • 1 ½” circle from heavy card stock in green

  • Aleene’s Clear Gel Tacky Glue

  • Photo cut into a 1 ½” circle

Making the Photo Flower

Use a 1 ½-inch diameter glass (or mathematician’s compass) to trace a circle for the flower’s center on the cardstock. Cut out.

Repeat with the photo, making sure to center the child’s face in the circle.

Set aside.

Cut the two pipe cleaners chosen for the petals into 3 ½” and 4” lengths. There should be six in all.

Bend each cut piece over the edge of a rounded surface to form the petal. A small Elmer’s glue bottle makes a good “mold”.

Bend the ends ¼” out to look something like feet. Then hook the feet together to form the petal.

Make all the petals and set aside.

Take one green pipe cleaner and bend it in half and twist the two together to form a sturdy stem.

Cut the other green pipe cleaner in half and make two leaves using the same process as for the flower petals.

To assemble the flower, spread tacky glue all over one side of the card stock circle. Position the petals in the glue.

Lay the doubled green stem in between two of the petals.

Spread glue all over the back of the photo and lay it on top of the petals making sure to align the edges of both circles.

Put a dab of glue on the stem end of the leaves. Press them underneath the stem and let dry completely.
