Can You Use Photoshop to Make Greeting Cards?

Is Photoshop the Best Greeting Card Software Program?

Hi, I am trying to create a line of professional looking greetings cards using my own photos of landscapes and
exaggerating all the colors to give an other-worldly look to them.

I have had some experience with the built in software on my computer like HP Image Zone and Presto Page Manager from Epson for effects, however I really like the sound of Adobe Photoshop CS.

Is this software designed for greetings cards specifically as I want to start with the best and not have to upgrade soon after.

Also does it show you the basics of lining everything up exactly (like text/images on back of card etc). If not, could you advise me which to buy?

Yours sincerely,

Paul

No, Photoshop is not designed specifically for greeting cards; though it would be possible to make them exclusively using Photoshop.

It depends mostly on how much time and patience you have to learn Photoshop. But also, some things are just quicker and easier to do in a program designed for graphic projects like cards, posters, etc.

I’ve been designing and selling my own greeting cards for four years and I still do my photo manipulation in Photoshop but create my cards using Print Shop.

Read my full reviews of Print Shop and Photoshop.

In my opinion, Photoshop is the best bar-none for photo manipulation and Print Shop is the best for graphic projects like cards.

If you decide to take the plunge with Photoshop, be sure to read all the way to the end of my review to learn about the inexpensive interactive tutorial for Photoshop titled A.S.A.P. which stands for “As Simple As Photoshop”.

If you also purchase Print Shop, there are several tutorials on The Artful Crafter specifically for card-making using Print Shop.

For example, there’s one on placing your own logo on the back of your cards, one on how to lay out pages for various card sizes, and another on creating themed sets.

Use the Search Box below to search the site to find them all.

I’ve had it on my to-do list for a while to add some tutorials for Photoshop. Your letter was the nudge I needed to “just do it”! So please check back soon - they are now available in the Computer Crafting section of the site.
