Outdoor Plaque Finishes

Durable Weatherproof Finishes

Hello...

I haven't asked a question in a long time but I figured if anyone had an answer to my question it would be you!

Here goes... we recently lost our beloved dog of 17 years... We have him buried in the back yard...

My husband brought me a very nice piece of ceramic tile which looks like slate and I want to use that as a marker with his name on it... this has been so hard!

I have a lot of acrylic paints but if acrylic paint is not what I should use... then what would you suggest?

And also what would I use to seal it so the weather will not ruin it?

Your answer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again!

Judith

First of all, my condolences on your loss. We currently have four and have lost many beloved dogs over the years.

Als thank you for the compliment.

Personally I wouldn't recommend ordinary acrylic paint for a plaque that will be exposed to the elements; even if you seal the paint.

I would use Delta PermEnamel.

PermEnamel is a paint designed for tile, glass and ceramic. It air-dries and is extremely durable.

There are other brands of craft paint for tile, glass and ceramic but they need to be baked for maximum durability.

Delta also makes a gloss coat in the PermEnamel line. I recommend two coats of Delta PermEnamel Glaze.

Are you familiar with The Rainbow Bridge?

I know it will bring tears, but it may also bring you some comfort. It does me.

In fact I wrote a rhyming version as a tribute to two of my doggies who have left and "gone to play".
