Designing and Making Homemade Postcards
Forget the Fold - Homemade Postcards
Card making is a popular hobby and a favorite pastime among crafters.
If you make and send out a lot of cards, you might want to go for a change of pace by trying postcard making.
Creating postcards from scratch is a fun and easy way to save time and money, while still enjoying the card making craft.
You'll be surprised to discover just how many advantages there are to crafting postcards instead of regular folded cards.
Postcards are perfect for any large quantity project, such as invitations, thank you cards, and announcements.
They have the same personal touch as traditional or folded handmade cards, but they take a lot less time to make, which is also makes them ideal for large quantity projects.
In fact, you can create a stunning postcard with a simple black and white photo (or color photo, if you prefer).
Plus, you can make postcards on the go while traveling, so no more boring touristy postcards showing off your vacation to loved ones back home.
Quick Style: Use Photos
For invitations, use a photo of the guest(s) of honor.
Use your own picture on thank you postcards. In fact, use a picture of yourself holding up a piece of paper with "Thank You" written on it!
Once you've chosen your photo, you can have color copies made at any local print shop. These can then be cut and glued directly to a blank postcard.
Handwrite your message, stamp, and send. Voila!
Save Time and Money
Postcard creation involves far fewer materials (no envelopes at all) than regular cards, which means they are more cost-effective.
The savings benefits don't stop there. Postcard stamps are always cheaper than regular letter stamps.
Since you're saving so much time and money by making postcards, you'll be able to make even more of them!
On the Go
You can actually make postcards while you're traveling.
All you'll need to carry in your luggage is a glue stick, scissors, a pen, and some blank post cards.
Don't bother buying those common postcards at the souvenir stand. Instead, pop into a print shop and run off some prints from your digital camera's memory card.
Then, stick the prints to the blank cards, and you're good to go! Be sure to allow at least 24 hours for the glue to cure before mailing. Otherwise you risk having the photo separate from the postcard as it goes through the postal system. Your photo would end up in the dead letter pile and your friends would receive a blank postcard from you!
If you'd rather not craft while on vacation, then consider creating unique handmade postcards upon your return. After all, there's no hard and fast rule that says you have to send the postcards while you're away!
