Quick Fuse Photos to Tiles

Decorating Tiles with Your Own Artwork

Quick Fuse Photo Tile

Iron a Photo onto a Tile

Create a lovely unique plaque with QuickFuse iron-on sheets.

Yes, I said "iron" a photo onto a tile. This project uses June Tailor Quick Fuse Iron-On Inkjet Fabric Sheets to transfer a photo onto a tile.

Several years ago, my son gave me present of a lovely wall tile with a photo somehow transferred onto it, done by artist Susan Rattenbury.

Inspired by this piece of art, when I recently had my kitchen redone and had tiles left over, I thought I would try to make some similar plaques.

These plaques can be displayed on a stand as shown or hung on the wall using a wire plate hanger.

You can scan original artwork or a favorite photo or use a digital photo. If you do digital scrapbooking, you can add all kinds of digital embellishments and effects.

If you are scanning your design, bring it in at 300 psi which is the recommended minimum resolution for printing. I used a 1942 wedding photo of my in-laws.

The vintage photo needed some retouching which was easily accomplished in Photoshop CS.

I used the Clone tool to fill in all the spots where the original had worn away and then lightened the whole picture to bring out more detail using Image>Adjustments>Levels.

Next I added a frame: TWA_BlushingBerry_EmbDig-05 frame from Scrap Girls. As the title suggests, the frame was a rosy hue. I changed that using Image>Adjustments>Hue/Saturation.

All you do is play with the sliders until you get the look you want.

Size the photo to fit your tile using Image>Image Size. Then print it onto a Quick Fuse sheet, trim and iron it onto the tile following package directions.

Of course my first effort at this was not nearly as classy as Ms. Rattenbury's work, but I hope with further practice, I too can create real works of art using this technique and product.
