Sorry, I've heard of Homecoming Mums and Sadie Hawkins Days, Dances and Weeks, but I've never heard of Sadie Hawkins Mums.
If they are like Homecoming Mums, go to Homecoming Mums Articles, where you'll find lots of information on homecoming mums supplies and how to make them.
Perhaps one of our other readers can help. Does anyone know anything about Sadie Hawkins Mums?
Sadie Hawkins Day
On November 13, 1937, Al Capp started spinning a yarn for his comic strip, L'il Abner, about Sadie Hawkins, the homeliest gal in all of Dogpatch. Seems her Paw, a prominent Dogpatchian, wanted to marry his spinster daughter off somehow, so he came up with the idea of declaring the First Annual Sadie Hawkins Day.
The highlight of the day was to be a race where the town's unmarried females got to chase down the town's bachelors. Any who got caught, had to marry the girl.
The idea of women being the pursuers caught the nation's fancy and by 1939, Life Magazine reported that over 200 colleges were holding Sadie Hawkins Day events.
The tradition has since moved to the high school level. According to Wikipedia, "Many US high schools, especially in the Midwest and South, hold Sadie Hawkins day dances. These dances are characterized by girls asking boys for dates, and matching farmer clothes being worn to the dance. This dance is also occasionally called "T.W.I.R.P." (The Woman Is Responsible to Pay), in which girls ask boys, pay for dinner, dance tickets, etc."
