Knotted Scarf Materials
1 skein soft and bulky acrylic yarn like Sumptuous Super Soft and Bulky Acrylic
Masking tape
Measuring tape
Scissors
Making the Scarf
Cut 12 pieces of yarn approximately 1 2/3 times the desired length of the finished scarf.
For a scarf 86 inches long, you will need the pieces to measure about 140 inches.
Lay the pieces out on a long table or counter in four bunches of three pieces each, spaced about 1 ½ inch apart.
Place a long strip of masking tape across one end about 4 to 6 inches from the end.
[If you don’t have a long area to lay out the yarn, you can place the ends inside a drawer and close the drawer tight on the fringe. You will then be able to knot the scarf out and away from the drawer.]
The knots you will be doing are simple square knots. Always start each knot left over right and then right over left so they will all look alike.
Pull each knot fairly tight.
Start by knotting the right two bunches together then knotting the left two bunches together. Next make a knot using the two middle bunches.
Leave about 1 ½ inches (vertically) between the knots as you work down the scarf.
Continue in the same manner for the remainder of the scarf. Be sure to end knotting the two outer bunches as you did to start the scarf.
Trim the scarf ends to a 4 to 6-inch fringe.
Optional: Unravel the strands of yarn at each end to create a fluffy fringe.
