Where to Find Scrapbooking Inspiration

Rosemary digital scrapbooking layout

You don't need to look far to find scrapbooking ideas.

Scrapbooking has been around a long time but is enjoying a resurgence and a revolution.

Chalk that up to the development of the affordable digital camera. Most people today have more photos than they know what to do with. They desire to organize them in a meaningful way so the photos can be shared and enjoyed "forever".

Scrapbooking is not just a way to organize the photos, but also to bring back some of the life of the moment with journal entries and embellishments that recapture the mood of the occasion.

Add the fact that each scrapbook page is a work of art and you can understand the widespread appeal of this burgeoning art form.

Don't let the terms "art" or "journal entries" scare you away. You don't need to be an artist or a writer to create wonderful unique scrapbook memories.

There is a worldwide community of scrappers who are only to happy to help you. Better yet, much of this help is free, thanks to the Internet, free classes and scrapbooking clubs.

If you're a beginner and don't know where to start, pick up a couple of scrapbooking magazines and/or books. Read them and see what appeals to you.

Do you want to paper scrap? Are you interested in digital scrapbooking? You have a digital camera, right? So you already know a bit about digital graphics - probably more than you realize.

On the Internet, you can find some wonderful scrapbooking sites and online scrapbooking communities.

Many offer free newsletters, tutorials, e-books and even free products to entice you into the addictive world of scrapbooking.

You may find yourself chatting with "scrappers" in Australia and Bangkok on any given day. It's nothing short of amazing.

Many scrappers start out paper scrapping and gradually move on to digital and hybrid scrapping which is a mixture of both paper and digital techniques. A page might be created digitally, printed out and then have 3-dimensional embellishments attached.

Recommended Internet Scrapbooking Sites

When you check out any of these scrapbooking websites, look first at the quality of the scrapbook page designs. If they appeal to you, roam around the home page to see if the site has a free newsletter you can subscribe to.

Also look for free products, tutorials, online classes and a messageboard or forum. Here are a few to try.

Recommended Scrapbooking Magazines

While the Internet is great for pursuing your love of scrapbooking, there's nothing quite like having a real paper magazine arrive in your mailbox on a regular basis.

A magazine is something you can pick up and take anywhere with you - to read on the bus or while waiting in the doctor's office.

Books on Scrapbooking - Both Paper and Digital

Finally there are books. Books become a permanent resource for you. They can guide you through any learning process in a logical manner and give you a handy way to refresh your memory when needed.

Here are some I have on my bookshelf.

Here are some I wish I had bought when I was starting out, as well as some that are on my current wish list.

Don't let any more holidays or family gatherings go by and don't let your kids grow a day older without scrapbooking the precious moments.

Once you've done that, dig out all the family photos that have been handed down to you or tucked away before you got your digital camera and recreate some family history. Your family will thank you for generations to come.
