Seasonal Scrapbooking - Spring

Springtime Scrapbooking Themes

Spring is a much beloved season.

The days start getting longer, the air becomes a little warmer, and the rains are a lot lighter.

Summer's just around the corner, and you can hear the anticipation in every school child's voice.

Flowers blossom, and suddenly the dark winter world is washed away, replaced by bright colors and new growth.

One way to draw spring into the pages of your scrapbook is to use color.

Spring is light, bright, and airy, so use space as well. With wee patterns and transparent layers, you can also infuse your pages with spring-like textures.

Color

Choose light, bright colors for pages, embellishments, and whenever possible, for the subjects and backdrops of the photos themselves.

Couple contrasting shades like bright pink and lime green or dusty lavender with a peachy orange. Pastels like yellow and baby blue and lots of bright white all reflect the qualities of spring.

Space

Spring is light and airy, so include plenty of white space in your scrapbook pages. That means leaving large chunks of your page bare (though not necessarily white).

If you're a clutter-bug, you might prefer to fill in every inch of your page, but try using white space, especially in areas directly opposite a particularly striking photo. Diagonal white space is particularly effective, and helps to draw the eye to the focal point without distraction.

Prints and Patterns

Just about any pattern is suitable for spring, provided it comes in the appropriate color scheme.

Pastel plaids and pale gingham prints, bright polka dots, and floral patterns all invoke spring.

Look for prints with animals, especially baby animals, and don't forget the holidays: Easter, Passover, Cinco de Mayo, and Mother's Day are all springtime events, and your favorite scrapbooking store will have a full stock of paper and embellishments especially for those occasions!

Texture

Spring is smooth and dewy, fresh and breezy.

The textures used on scrapbook pages can easily reflect the textures of spring. Use gauzy fabrics and transparent papers to invoke the breeze. Leafy patterns and long, thin, tightly spaced lines spanning the page will add an air of freshness.

Smooth papers without textures contrasted against lightly textured papers and fabrics will add new life to your scrapbook layouts.
