Shoe Design

Converting Drawings into 3-D Models

I want to send Globe Footwear some of my designs but don’t know
how to get them finished in 3-D. How do I draw in 3-D or get a picture of the 2-D version converted to 3-D?

I skateboard and want to be sponsored by Globe.

If you could help me out, I would really appreciate it. And another question, if I sent you the design, you would make an actual pair (wearable)? Because if so that'd be great as well.

Whatever you can do will make me satisfied.

Thanks a lot Eileen.

Dustin

It’s terrific that you are already in touch with Globe Footwear. If you have a contact there that can provide you some guidance, they can tell you exactly what you need to learn. I do have a few tips for you in the meantime.

You can’t actually draw 3 dimensions on a 2-dimensional piece of paper. What you can do is use perspective and shading to give the appearance of depth and dimensionality.

To present 3-D designs to a shoe manufacturer, you will need access to CAD (computer-aided design) software. But you don’t need to learn CAD yourself – yet.

There is a company that will take your 2-D drawings and convert them to CAD files. This is what the shoe manufacturers want to see – a virtual model of your design that can be rotated to view all surfaces and zoomed in on to see detail.

Read this article on how to get your designs converted to 3-D computer models.

The Artful Crafter is a craft information site. We can usually help with your crafting questions and point you in the right direction. However, we don’t produce anything for sale through our website.

Thanks alot! You are a very big help. If I have any more questions about any of my art I will come to you.

Beats spending time in an Art School facility and wasting time. Although l'd like the degree. haha.
