Lace Snowflake

Winter Decor

lace snowflake

Lace snowflakes are easy to make and lovely for tree or table.

Use these lace snowflakes as ornaments on your Christmas tree.

They also make pretty window decorations or can be hung from chandeliers and light fixtures the rest of the winter.

Other ideas: reusable gift box decoration; winter-theme mobile; table decoration; New Year’s party décor.

Try using red, green, gold or silver lace for added sparkle.

Lace Snowflake Materials

  • 20 inches of lace - any width
  • 24 or 26 gauge wire - examples uses 26 gauge copper wire
  • Beads of your choice - one large for the center and several to scatter around (1/8 to 1/4-inch beads work well for a scattered design)

Making the Lace Snowflake

Cut a length of wire 22 inches long. Weave one end through the top of the lace leaving 1-inch at the starting end.

lace snowflake - step one

As you are weaving, you can place small beads on the wire when coming up through the lace if you want to scatter beads throughout the design.

Do not use seed beads as they will not show up later.

When you get to the other end of the lace, pull the two wire ends together gathering the lace tightly in the center. Twist the two wires together in the back to secure.

Do not cut the extra wire off.

lace snowflake - step two

Weave one end of the wire through the two raw ends of lace forming a seam. The seam should not show on the front.

Twist the remaining wire end around itself to form a small loop. This is where you can attach a Christmas ornament hook for hanging on the tree.

With the remaining wire end and with the wire still in the back, attach the center decorative bead.

Once you have strung the bead onto the wire, weave it through the other side of the center area of the snowflake.

Pull it tight and secure with a loop knot as you would when knotting thread. A single knot will do.

lace snowflake - step three

The sample on the right in the top photo has three pearls in the center.

When attaching more than one bead in the center, string on one bead and run the wire through some of the lace in the center first before attaching another bead.

Do this step for each bead and finish off with a single knot at the back as above.
