Fall Themed Decorations

Easy Holiday Table Runner

Table Runner Supplies

  • Felt by the yard – color of your choice
  • Manila folder or heavy paper
  • Silk flowers or leaves – colors of your choice
  • Hot glue gun
  • 3D fabric paint
  • Beads or other decorations of your choice
  • Scissors
  • Fabric marking pen

Table Runner Instructions

1. Measure the length of the table to be used. Example is for a 47 inch table. Yes it’s a small table but it’s just the two of us using it.

2. Decide if you want a straight edge on the runner or a decorative edge.

I used a 6” circle cut in half from a manila folder.

Then measure out how many of your design will fit evenly along the sides and the ends of the runner. Example is a 51” x 13” runner. The runner can extend over the ends of the table or just fit the top.

Whatever looks good to you.

3. Cut out the length and width of felt desired for the runner. Lay the manila folder edge pattern at one extreme and use the marking pen to draw the outline.

Reposition the template and repeat the process all around the felt.

Cut out the edging design and turn the runner over.

4. Take the flowers or leaves apart and arrange them on the runner in a look that pleases you; then go ahead and hot glue them to the runner.

Tips

Make sure you are working over a durable or protected surface due to the heat. I used my washer and dryer which was a perfect length and width to handle this project.

Be sure your design isn’t too bulky as you will be placing serving dishes on the runner.

5. Now you can decorate further as desired.

I have added some off-white beads I had on hand. And some dots of 3D paint in orange.

Again remember not to do anything too bulky where dishes will be placed.

The decorating ideas of this project are endless. You can do fancy beading along the edging; embroidery; fabric painted designs or stencils; lace edging; decorative trims.

Let your imagination run wild. Make it festive and coordinate with your tableware or other holiday decorations around the house.

Happy Holidays everyone!
