Ric Rac Dahlia Tote Bag
Supplies
- Lime tote bag
- ¼ yard of narrow green ric rac for each stem
- Small scrap of green felt for leaves
- Needle and green thread
- 2 yards of medium size ric rac (for each flower)
- Thread to match each flower
- Two ½-inch felt circle to match each flower (2 circles needed for each flower)
- Decorative button for the center of each flower
- Small butterfly appliqué
- Aleene's Clear Gel Tacky Glue
Assembling the Tote Bag
Hold two matching felt circles together.

Leave a tail of ric rac pointing toward the center and tack in place with matching color thread. Working from the outside of the circle, tack the bottom edge of each ric rac "v" onto the felt.
Continue toward the center overlapping the rows so the dahlia petals are close together and create a very full blossom.

When you reach the center turn over the end of the ric rac and tack in place. Sew on a button for the flower's center.
Glue the narrow green ric rac on the tote to resemble flower stems.
Cut two small leaf shapes from green felt. Use the needle and green thread to embroider small stitches down the center of each leaf for veins.
Pinch one end together and tack- stitch to give it a 3-dimensional look. Glue leaves in place beside the stems.
Glue on the butterfly appliqué.
Glue the flowers in place. Place a book over them to keep them lying flat while drying.
