Stamped Valentines Cards

Decorate Your Valentines with Art Stamps

Valentines Mailbox

A handmade Valentine's Day card offers a unique and creative way of making someone feel special.

Using art stamps, you can turn out enough cards for a classroom. Or, for that extra special someone in your life, a few extra touches will make a stamped card warm and personal.

Plus, there are a number of ways to enhance a simple card using stamps, to make Valentines suitable for friends and family.

Card making doesn’t have to be a long and arduous task. One of the great things about the stamping technique is that it can be done with speed and efficiency, which is why stamps are ideal for bulk card making.

Yet, stamps also lend themselves well to more elaborate designs, and can add a very personal touch to a Valentine’s Day card for someone you adore.

Stamping Valentines En Masse

If your task is to create a pile of cards, perhaps for an entire classroom, stamping is one way to get it done quickly.

First, cut your decorative paper into squares, rectangles, or hearts. Use a simple child-friendly stamp that is in line with the Valentine theme – hearts, cherubs, and other symbols of love and friendship work best.

The stamp pad should hold an ink that contrasts sharply with the paper you’re using. Pads in pale pinks and bright whites look great against dark red paper.

Once you’ve cut and folded the cards, put them in a stack, and then make your way through the stack, stamping each card in turn, and spreading them out to dry.

A Romantic Edge and a Personal Touch

For a more personal effect, and to create individualized Valentines cards, try getting creative with edges, layers, shapes, and sizes.

Here are a few card making techniques that work wonderfully with stamps:

  • Edges – Torn edges create a soft touch, and when layered, add dimension.
  • Layers – Use smaller stamps to create patterned papers, and then layer these against solid colors.
  • Shapes – When cutting out the card template, be creative and try different shapes and sizes. Use patterns or objects around the house to trace interesting shapes, and then use stamps to create patterns or focal points.

Location, Location, Location

Every card has four sides: the front cover, inside left, inside right, and back cover.

Where to stamp? Anywhere!

Use a large, bold image stamp for the front cover, then use word stamps for the inside portion of the card.

On the back cover, place a smaller stamp in the bottom center area to create a professional effect.

If you really want to make a statement about your card making, you can order your own personalized stamp, with your name, or a logo of your choosing, and use it to stamp everything you make!
