Pin Weave Heart Valentine Card

Pin weaving is a fun weaving craft you can do without a loom.

Pin Weave Valentines Materials

  • 3 colors of ½” bias tape
  • Heart pattern or stencil – example is 5” wide x 3 1/2” deep
  • Therm O Web Heat n Bond – enough to do the size heart you want
  • Decorative trim
  • 1 charm
  • 4 Foam hearts – Ύ” x ½”
  • Iridescent glitter glue
  • Cardstock – 7” x 10”
  • Glue
  • Dark color marking pen
  • Scissors
  • Straight pins

Assembling the Valentines Card

Trace a heart using a pattern or stencil onto the paper side of the Heat n Bond.

Cut around the heart leaving ½” excess around.

Place the heart paper side down on the foam board or padded ironing board. Pin in place by placing pins on four corners straight down into the pattern and padding below.

Start pining strips of the bias tape across the heart making sure the other edges of the heart are covered.

Pin just at one end for now.

Continue pining and cutting strips across making sure the bias tape strips are as close to each other as possible. Alternate the colors as you go.

Now start doing the same but across the previous strips.

Keeping the same color pattern as before.

Pin the first strip at one end and then weave it across going over one and under one.

Then pin the next strip going under one and over one. Continue across until all the heart is covered with the woven strips.

Place several more pins in the center part of the heart to keep it stable for the next step. Make sure all ends of the bias tape are pinned in place as well.

Pin Weave Valentines Card Assembly - Step Two

Carefully start lifting the heart off the foam board keeping the pins still in place.

Once the heart it is off the gently remove the pins holding each area with your other hand to keep the strips together.

Lay the heart flat on the ironing board.

Press the heart at medium heat and hold the iron in one place for about 10 seconds.

Continue until the entire heart is pressed and the webbing is fused to the back.

Then turn it over and press again.

Pin Weave Valentines Card Assembly - Step Three

Cut out the heart following the pattern drawn earlier on the backing.

Pin Weave Valentines Card Assembly - Step Four

Pull the backing paper off.

Pin Weave Valentines Card Assembly - Completed Heart

Fold the cardstock in half and glue the heart on the front.

Glue a strip of decorative cording around the outer edge of the heart.

Glue a charm at the top middle of the heart.

Place a foam heart in each corner.

Run a thin layer of the glitter glue over the decorative cording.

Add further embellishments as desired, for example add other colors of bias tape.

This will be a card to keep forever.
