Home-Curing Waterslide Decals onto Ceramics, Glass or Metal
Can Decals be Fused onto Glass?
Learn how to fuse decals onto glass, metal or ceramics.
I need your expertise and advice.
I would like to place decals on the bottom of a glass paperweight. I want the image to be seen from of course the top.
The glass I am using can be oven baked.
I like the idea of heat fused decals as they look nice on glass.
Is there a procedure to accomplish this?
Thanks
John
Yes there is.
I just finished a series of experiments to home “cure” Lazertran Inkjet Waterslide Decals. I used the inkjet version since most of my readers have inkjet printers.
After much trial and error, I got some very good results fusing the decals onto ceramic tiles in my home oven. The method is also suitable for glass and metal.
The decals don’t truly cure and fuse into the substrate as oxide glazes fired in a kiln, but rather they melt onto the surface.
If you have access to a laser printer, use the Original Lazertran Decals. They can be baked to significantly higher heat giving better adhesion and a shinier glaze-like finish.
