What can I tell you about this particular wire sculpture design?
All I had in mind when I started was to make something special for my friend Jackie’s birthday. I knew she would like the purple rhinestone. Amethyst is her birthstone and purple is also one of her colors.
I knew I wanted to add a little monogram flourish. Notice that the loops supporting the stone shape the letter “J”.
Beyond that, I had no clue what I wanted to do. So I let my muse take over. I attached the wire to two of the snapset prongs as described in this wire sculpture pendant pattern.
Then I struggled to set the stone. This stone is a smidge bigger than the snapset was designed to hold. But I’ve found that snapsets are adjustable within a small range. I finally got the stone set. I love the little “click” it makes when it finally snaps firmly under the four prongs.
I made two loops at the top of the stones and started fanning the wire while I pondered where to go next.
Running the wire through your fingers over and over also work hardens the wire and assures your sculpture will hold its shape when worn.
Voila!
The wire formed itself into a curve that suggested a heart to me. Perfect for Jackie – whose birthday is so close to Valentine’s Day and who so is close to my heart!
